Frequently Asked Questions

What is the technical difficulty of the trails at the Brown County Epic?

The course features world-class singletrack that ranges from flowy, beginner-friendly sections to more demanding, technical climbs and descents. Expect a mix of classic Indiana dirt, rock features, and rooty sections that will challenge your handling skills while keeping the stoke high.

What kind of mountain bike is best suited for this terrain?

A modern mountain bike with at least 100mm to 140mm of travel is ideal for tackling these trails comfortably. Whether you prefer a nimble hardtail or a capable full-suspension rig, ensure your tires have ample grip for variable trail conditions and that your brakes are bedded in for the elevation changes.

How would you describe the elevation profile of the course?

Southern Indiana is deceptively punchy, so expect a series of rolling climbs and fast, flowing descents throughout the loop. You will definitely feel the burn on the sustained ascents, but the payoff is some of the most rewarding, high-speed singletrack in the Midwest.

Is camping available on-site for the weekend?

Yes, camping is a huge part of the Epic experience and the best way to soak in the bluegrass music and festival atmosphere. Check the event website for the latest details on site availability, tent spots, and vehicle access.

What should I bring to ensure I am prepared for race day?

Beyond your bike and helmet, we recommend coming prepared for shifting fall weather and self-supported riding. Essential gear includes:

A well-maintained bike with fresh sealant
Multi-tool and trailside repair kit
Hydration pack and extra nutrition
Layers for cool mornings and warm afternoons
