Frequently Asked Questions

What is the technical difficulty of the Rough Cut Trailfest course?

This course is designed for riders who love raw, mountain-focused terrain. Expect a mix of flowy singletrack and challenging technical features, so come prepared for some elevation gain and natural trail obstacles.

Is the event suitable for beginner mountain bikers?

While the trails around Red Lodge are legendary, this event features segments that require a solid level of confidence on a mountain bike. We recommend riders have experience with singletrack and variable trail conditions before signing up.

What kind of gear should I bring for the Montana terrain?

Mountain conditions can change rapidly, so bring a reliable bike, a hydration pack, and basic trail repair tools. We strongly suggest running tubeless tires with aggressive tread to handle the rocky sections and loose dirt common in this region.

Where can spectators watch the action?

Spectators are encouraged to cheer on the riders near the main trailhead and designated viewing zones along the lower loops. Please stay on marked paths to protect the landscape and ensure you do not interfere with the racers.

How do I find out about the official elevation profile and trail maps?

Final course maps and elevation details are usually released closer to the event date to account for any last-minute trail maintenance. Check the official event website for the latest course updates and logistics.

What happens if the weather turns on race day?

Mountain weather is part of the challenge, and the event will proceed rain or shine unless conditions become dangerous. Check the event website for the latest details on any potential course modifications or schedule changes.
