Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of bike do I need for the Thunder Bay Thriller?

Because our routes feature a mix of rolling gravel, snowmobile two-track, and single-track sections, a gravel bike with at least 35mm-40mm tires is highly recommended for comfort and traction. Mountain bikes are also a fantastic, capable choice if you prefer a bit more suspension for the woods of the Norway Ridge Pathway.

Are these routes suitable for beginners or just experienced racers?

We love welcoming riders of all skill levels to the community! While the 100-mile Ultra is designed for seasoned endurance athletes, our 15-mile and 31-mile options are perfect for those looking to enjoy the scenery at a more relaxed pace.

What can I expect at the aid stations along the course?

We provide well-stocked aid stations to keep you fueled and hydrated throughout your ride. You can expect a variety of hydration options, energy snacks, and friendly volunteers ready to cheer you on and help you get back on the trail quickly.

Is there a post-ride celebration for participants and spectators?

Absolutely - the post-ride community atmosphere is a huge part of the Thunder Bay Thriller experience! Stick around after your finish to share stories with fellow riders, enjoy some local food, and celebrate your accomplishment together.

How should I prepare for the different surface types on the route?

The route varies from smooth gravel to more technical two-track and single-track sections. We recommend practicing on varied terrain before race day to get comfortable with handling your bike on loose surfaces and navigating through wooded trail sections.
