Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of bike and tire setup do I need for the Mammoth TUFF terrain?

Given the mix of fast-rolling forest roads, sandy sections, and rocky volcanic terrain, we recommend a gravel bike with wider tires for comfort and traction. Aim for a tire width of at least 40mm, though many riders prefer 45mm or wider to handle the pumice dust and unique caldera surface with confidence.

Is Mammoth TUFF suitable for riders of all skill levels?

Yes! While the high-altitude environment and technical volcanic terrain present a challenge, the event is designed to be inclusive and welcoming. Whether you are an elite racer or a passionate gravel enthusiast, there is a place for you to push your limits and enjoy the community spirit.

What can I expect at the aid stations during the ride?

Our aid stations are fully stocked to keep you fueled and hydrated throughout your journey across the Eastern Sierra. You will find a variety of hydration options, energy snacks, and friendly volunteers ready to support you as you navigate the course.

What is the atmosphere like at the post-ride festival?

The post-ride celebration in the Village at Mammoth is the heart of the event! You can look forward to a vibrant community atmosphere featuring great food, local drinks, and the chance to share stories with fellow riders in a festive, celebratory setting.

How should I prepare for the high-altitude riding conditions?

Riding at high altitude can be physically demanding, so we recommend arriving a day or two early to help your body acclimate to the elevation. Stay well-hydrated leading up to the event, pace yourself during the climbs, and always listen to your body throughout the ride.

Where should I park and how can my family watch the event?

Parking and spectator information can change based on local regulations, so please check the event website for the latest details as the weekend approaches. The Village at Mammoth is a fantastic hub for spectators to soak in the energy of the start and finish lines while enjoying everything the town has to offer.
