A Chainbuster gravel staple, Shake N Brake has been a part of the gravel series from the beginning. Now, starting from beautiful downtown Piedmont, AL, the route will take you over Dugger Mountain and into the beautiful Talladega National Forest. Along the way 60 mile route, you'll encounter beautiful mountain views, scenic cascading streams, and plenty of rolling hills. After the race, there will be an amazing post-race meal hosted by Shell's Restaurant at The Place Downtown.

Get ready for the Shake & Brake Gravel Race, a cornerstone of the Smalltown Gravel Series presented by Specialized Bicycles. Known as one of the most challenging yet scenic gravel events in the Southeast, this race takes you through the heart of Alabama’s rugged beauty.

Course Description

The race begins in downtown Piedmont, AL, and quickly transitions into the "postcard-worthy" terrain of the Talladega National Forest.
  • The Terrain: Expect a mix of rolling hills, scenic cascading streams, and raw, rugged gravel.
  • Key Challenges: The route features significant elevation, including the formidable Dugger Mountain.
  • The Finish: After conquering the climbs, riders enjoy a "full gas" 13-mile return section, often utilizing the Chief Ladiga Trail to sprint back into town.

Distances & Categories

  • Long Course (approx. 60 miles): A relentless journey that crosses into Georgia before returning to Piedmont.
  • Short Course (approx. 30–32 miles): Don't let the distance fool you; short-course riders must tackle Dugger Mountain twice.
  • Participant Limit: The field is strictly limited to 300 participants to maintain the event's intimate, community feel.
