The Mud, Sweat & Beers (MSB) Fat Tire Fest and Mountain Bike Race is Michigan’s premier spring cycling tradition, held annually at the Mt. Holiday Ski and Recreational Area in Traverse City. The event combines high-energy racing with a themed celebration, all to benefit Mt. Holiday’s nonprofit youth programs.

Course Description

The courses are designed by the Northern Michigan Mountain Bike Association (NMMBA) to provide a fast, flowing, and technical challenge that holds up in any spring weather.
  • The Start: All races begin at Mt. Holiday, winding through private land and tackling Gezellig Hill (100' vertical over 0.2 miles) early on.
  • The Middle: Riders traverse a mix of the VASA Pathway, single track, and two-track trails within the state forest.
  • The Finish: Every race concludes with an "adrenaline rush" slalom down the Mt. Holiday ski hill, through Dragon’s Alley, and straight into the legendary Max’s Service Mud Pit finish.

  • Packet Pickup Party: Held Friday, featuring live music from The Headwaters Band in the Mt. Holiday Beer Garden.
  • Slow Your Roll: A "slowest rider" contest where participants attempt to ride a few hundred feet downhill without touching the ground.
