The Gunflint Scramble

• Location: Bearskin Lodge (124 E. Bearskin Road, Grand Marais, MN 55604)
• Entries: Limited to 100 racers.

The Gunflint Scramble Course

• The Mix: A challenging combination of groomed Nordic ski trails, rugged snowmobile trails, winding forest roads, and narrow, twisty singletrack.
• The Terrain: Expect intense, sustained, and often grassy climbs—this is not a flat course. The route includes steep, sometimes loose, descents that require careful handling and skill.
• The Scenery: Remote, beautiful, and seldom used outside of winter, these trails offer stunning views of the fall colors between East Bearskin and Golden Eagle Lakes.
• Conditions: The event is held rain or shine. In cases of extreme saturation, an alternate, mostly-gravel course may be used.

Event Details & Schedule

• Race Format: Mountain bike (fat bikes are also welcome, but the course is well-suited for traditional mountain bikes).
• Support: This is a self-supported race. Participants should be prepared for remote conditions.
• Awards: Top male and female riders win a free 3-night stay at Bearskin Lodge! Additional random prize drawings occur for all finishers.
• Amenities: Free donuts from "World’s Best Donuts" in Grand Marais for all finishers.
• Pre-Race Fundraiser: A pancake breakfast will be served from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM to raise money for the Cook County Youth Mountain Bike Team.
