Frequently Asked Questions
Can I compete in both the trail run and XC race on the same day?
Yes! You can tackle both events, but you'll need to finish the Mudslinger Trail Run (which starts at 8:30 am) in under 2.5 hours to have time to transition and make the XC Race meeting at 11:15 am with a roll down start at 11:30 am. Plan your pace accordingly if you're going for the double.
What's the terrain like on the Mudslinger XC course?
Expect classic Pacific Northwest riding - you'll grind up logging roads to a ridge top, then rip down fast-paced, loamy singletrack carved through Starker Forests. The trails are built on old logging heritage routes with that signature Northwest character that makes this event legendary.
Can I race as part of a team or do I have to compete solo?
You can choose! Compete individually like many riders do, or join forces with teammates for a combined team score. Whether you're flying solo or bringing the crew, there's a format that works for your style.
What skill level is the Mudslinger XC Race suitable for?
The Mudslinger welcomes riders across all skill levels - from beginners ready to test themselves to expert shredders. The loamy singletrack and ridge climbing offer challenges for everyone, and the course design lets you push as hard as you want.
When is the best time to arrive for race day?
If you're only doing the XC race, arrive with plenty of time before the 11:15 am meeting for parking and registration. If you're doing both events, plan to arrive early enough to transition comfortably between the trail run finish and the bike race - check the event website for specific parking and logistics details.
What should I bring to handle these Pacific Northwest trail conditions?
Mud and loamy conditions are part of the Mudslinger DNA - pack a bike setup with good traction, consider knobby tires for grip on wet singletrack, and bring trail-ready gear. For the run portion, trail shoes with solid grip are essential. Check current trail condition reports on the event website before race day to dial in your setup.
Is this event beginner-friendly?
Absolutely - the Mudslinger has been welcoming riders of all levels since 1987. Beginners can experience classic Northwest mountain biking on well-established trails, and the supportive community atmosphere makes it a great early-season event to test your skills and push your limits.
