Frequently Asked Questions
Is The Hairy Roubaix a race?
No - The Hairy Roubaix is a fun, supported gravel ride designed for all skill levels, not a competitive race. You'll enjoy scenic mixed surfaces at your own pace with the added bonus of supporting a great cause for the Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter.
What route options are available?
The Hairy Roubaix offers multiple route options to suit different abilities and adventure levels. Check the event website for the latest details on exact distances and difficulty descriptions for each route.
What kind of bike do I need?
A gravel bike is ideal, but any bike with wider tires and good clearance will work on mixed surfaces. Mountain bikes and even sturdy hybrid bikes can handle the terrain - what matters most is that you're comfortable and confident on your ride. Consider tires with good traction for unpaved sections.
Will there be aid stations along the route?
Yes - The Hairy Roubaix is a fully supported event with aid stations to keep you fueled and hydrated throughout your ride. You'll have access to water, snacks, and support as you tackle those mixed surfaces.
Where do I park and what's the start location?
The event starts and finishes at Peaks Retreat and Adventure Center (1336 Simmons Mill Rd, Thaxton, VA). Check the event website for parking details and any specific arrival time recommendations.
Can I bring my friends or family to spectate?
Absolutely - the community spirit is part of what makes The Hairy Roubaix special! Your friends and family can come out to cheer you on, enjoy the scenic area at Peaks Retreat and Adventure Center, and support our furry friends by participating in the fundraiser for the Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter.
Where does the event money go?
All proceeds support the Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter (FOBCAS), directly funding food, vaccinations, spays/neuters, and medical expenses for animals in need. Your participation makes a real difference!
