Frequently Asked Questions

What surfaces will I encounter on the I Love Gravel Racing Points Series courses?

The courses feature mixed terrain routes including gravel, dirt, and seasonal surfaces that showcase the natural beauty of the Great Lakes region. You'll experience varied conditions that test your bike handling skills while delivering stunning scenery throughout each race.

Do I need to compete in all the races to participate in the series?

No - you can race individual events when it fits your schedule, or commit to the full series to battle for year-long standings and bragging rights. Either way, you're part of Michigan's vibrant gravel community and earning points toward the overall competition.

What skill levels are welcome at these races?

The series is designed for everyone - from beginners exploring gravel terrain for the first time to elite racers chasing podium finishes. Categories are structured so you'll find your competitive home and race alongside riders at your level.

What kind of bike do I need for gravel racing?

A gravel or cyclocross bike works best, but mountain bikes and adventure bikes are also suitable for mixed terrain courses. Check the event website for specific course details and recommended tire widths - many riders use wider tires (40mm+) for better traction on varied surfaces.

Are there aid stations during the races?

Yes - support on course includes aid stations and volunteer marshals to keep you fueled and safe throughout each race. You'll have access to water, nutrition, and support when you need it most.

What happens after the race finishes?

Beyond the racing, the series features a strong community atmosphere with post-ride gatherings where you can connect with fellow gravel enthusiasts, share stories about the course, and build lasting friendships within Michigan's passionate off-road cycling community.

How does the points system work across multiple races?

You earn points at each race based on your finishing position and category. Points accumulate throughout the season, and riders are ranked in year-long standings - so your performance across multiple races determines your standing in the series championship. Check the event website for the complete scoring details.
