Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of gnarly terrain can I expect at Kings CX?

Get ready for classic Midwest cyclocross! Kings CX is renowned for its challenging mix of grassy power sections, technical off-camber turns, energy-sapping mud (if it rains-and sometimes even if it doesn't!), and a few punchy run-ups that will test your legs and lungs. Expect barriers designed to make you dismount and remount with precision.

What racing categories are available for Kings CX?

We welcome racers of all levels and ages! Kings CX typically offers a full slate of categories, including Elite Men and Women, various Masters age groups, Junior categories, and a range of amateur categories for different skill levels. Check the official event website for the specific category schedule and race times.

How can spectators best experience the chaos and cheer on their favorite riders?

Spectators are the heart of cyclocross! Grab your cowbell-the louder, the better-and find a prime spot near the barriers, a steep run-up, or a technical corner where the action is always intense. Roam the course, but please stay out of the way of riders and officials, and be ready to cheer on every single competitor!

What's the recommended bike and tire setup for Kings CX conditions?

A dedicated cyclocross bike is ideal, but gravel bikes can also tackle the course. Tire choice is crucial and often depends on race-day conditions-if it's muddy, aggressive mud tires are your friend; if it's dry, an all-around tread might be faster. Many racers opt for a pit bike if available, especially if the course is a mud-fest.

Are there specific tips for tackling the Kings CX run-ups and barriers?

Practice makes perfect! The run-ups at Kings CX can be leg-sapping, so quick dismounts and efficient shouldering are key. For the barriers, focus on smooth dismounts, carrying your momentum, and confident remounts-it's all about minimizing time lost and conserving energy for the rest of the lap.

Where can I find information on race-day logistics like parking, packet pickup, and schedules?

All the essential race-day details, including parking locations, packet pickup times and spots, and the full event schedule, will be posted on the official Kings CX website. We highly recommend checking it in the days leading up to the event for the most up-to-date information to ensure a smooth race experience.
