Your Ultimate Guide to The Filthy 50

The Spirit of the Driftless

The philosophy here is simple: the gravel roads are always there for you to enjoy. We just provide the community, the course, and the hero’s welcome to make the experience complete. From the rolling hills of Amish country to the notorious minimum maintenance roads that give the event its "filthy" name, every mile is designed to showcase the best of Southeast Minnesota. We believe in inclusive adventure, where the camaraderie at the finish line is just as important as the grit shown on the climbs.

What to Expect

The Terrain - Expect a mix of fast-rolling gravel, chunky limestone, and challenging minimum maintenance roads (MMR) that can change character depending on the weather.
The Climbs - The Driftless region is famous for its punchy elevation. You will encounter legendary sections like Dew Drop and Grub Hill that will test your gearing and your resolve.
Amish Country Etiquette - Parts of the course travel through active Amish communities. Expect to see horse-drawn buggies and please share the road with respect and a friendly wave.
Community Vibe - The start and finish take place in the middle of downtown Lanesboro, offering a festival atmosphere where riders and locals mingle to celebrate the day’s achievements.
The Finish - Rolling back into town after tackling the final stretch on Grit Road provides a true "hero's welcome" that makes every foot of climbing worth the effort.

Course Descriptions

We offer two distinct ways to experience the filth, ensuring that riders of all skill levels can find their perfect challenge. Both routes highlight the unique topography of Fillmore County.

Course Name	Approx. Distance	Elevation Gain	Key Features
The Pretty Filthy	25 Miles	1,900+ Feet	Grosbeak and Gentle climbs, Easy Street descent, Gribben Creek, and the Grit Road finish.
The Filthy 50	50 Miles	3,200+ Feet	Dew Drop climb, The Big Woods, Amish-maintained MMRs, Grub Hill, and Grit Road.

The Pretty Filthy 25 is our recommended entry point for those new to the gravel scene. It packs a significant punch with nearly 2,000 feet of climbing but stays focused on the scenic beauty of the valleys. For those seeking the full experience, The Filthy 50 takes you deeper into the wilder sections of the county, featuring more technical minimum maintenance roads and the infamous "Big Woods" section where the canopy closes in and the gravel gets real.

Event Highlights & Support

Aid Stations - Fully stocked checkpoints are strategically placed to keep you hydrated and fueled. Expect more than just water - our volunteers bring the energy and the snacks to keep your pedals turning.
Minimum Maintenance Roads - These are the "wild" segments of the course. Often un-groomed and naturally rugged, these sections are where the "Filthy" in the event name is truly earned.
Post-Ride Celebration - Once you cross the finish line, the party begins. Lanesboro’s local shops and eateries welcome riders with open arms, providing the perfect setting for a post-ride meal and storytelling.
Scenic Vistas - Keep your eyes up! Between the challenging climbs, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the root river valley and the pristine Minnesota countryside.
Mechanical Support - While we encourage all riders to be self-sufficient, we provide basic support to help ensure everyone makes it back to downtown for the festivities.
